The Quarantine Diaries

or How to Fight Lockdown-Fatigue in These Trying Times

— PLUIES talks about lockdown fatigue, and how redecorating her apartment coupled with budget solutions and creativity led her to create the “What the Fluff” atelier.

“During lockdown Chapter II, just like many of us, I really started to get bored. I had watched all the nice documentaries on Tënk, read all the books I had planned to read, and, mostly, I had ultimately accepted the fact that my next concert would happen in 2021.

The only thing left to do was to redecorate my interior, where my boyfriend and I spend most of our time since this pandemic situation started. As we moved stuff around, we concluded that we needed rugs — a lot of lovely, soft, and cozy rugs to survive in this harsh, contaminated world.

We wanted to surround ourselves with softness. We then tried online to find the perfect rug for our home, but we couldn’t find anything we liked to match our ‘broke artists’ budget. So I turned to him and said: ‘you know what, I’m going to make it myself!'”.

“Indeed, the machine for tufting rugs was actually cheaper than the majority of the rugs we liked. So I got super hyped and instantly ordered it. After spending a whole night watching all the rug tufting video’s on YouTube (they are super satisfying, by the way, highly recommended), I started drawing my first ideas and made collages with color papers. I impatiently waited for my second-hand tufting gun to arrive. Yes, it’s called like that: a gun, a powerful tool for creation and expression!

Thanks to ME/WE and Le Cartel de Bruxelles, I received the keys of an unused storefront in 6 Rue de Vergnies in Brussels to open a little boutique-atelier for my new activity.”

“Rug making saved me from boredom, and from going bankrupt while waiting for the cultural sector to wake up from the cocoma it’s in!”

“While waiting for the machine’s delivery, I gathered vintage, pure organic wool from second-hand stores and my grandma’s attic. I got help from my textile designer friend Gilles Werbrouck, who gave me a lot of yarn stock. When the machine arrived, I made my first creations and posted them online. I instantly got many orders from friends and random people from the inter webs.

It’s business time!”

“oh and by the way, I still don’t have any rugs at my place, since I sold all of my creations already!”

Nitz live at Plato’s Bodies, Ljubljana

PLATO’S BODIES

—

The audio-visual performance in the industrial setting of the Old Power Station in Ljubljana is centred around an icosahedral object that summarises the shape and symbolism of the five Platonic solids representing the five elements. It was developed as an interactive AV installation for the Lighting Guerrilla festival.

Plato’s Bodies has now been remade as a performance. The entire surface of the object becomes a continuous whole – the audio-reactive and mapped projections of three visual artists are united; at the same time, their driving force is the sound of the performing musicians. The lighting elements forming the junctions of the projection surfaces are used both for dictating the colour of the projections with visual triggers and for illustrating the musical tempo.

Elements for the performance have been created by communities of visual and music artists for Lightning Guerilla Laboratory, in co-production: Ljudmila Art and Science Laboratory with Strip Core / Forum Ljubljana.

Unreleased Archives – Luc Ringeisen

The Unreleased Archives

"Luc Ringeisen"

Luc Ringeisen ventures into the Bandcamp ecosystem to release new and exclusive tracks available in two attractive formats: high-quality downloads (24bit/48K WAV) and a rather unusual but highly collectible custom dubplate with personalized tracklist through an “A la Carte” concept. The “Unreleased Archives,” a collection of 3xEPs of 5 extra tracks each, is now available on the platform and consists of recent studio productions and some older unreleased gems. Follow his Bandcamp page and receive notifications on new releases. Luc expects to upload new work consistently, especially Bandcamp exclusive studio work & secret weapons from the past 2 decades.

“Bandcamp exclusive studio work & secret weapons from the past 2 decades.”

A la Carte Concept: After choosing the tracklist of your personalized vinyl, we will create a custom dubplate from PVC blanks; we will produce it and ship it with care from Berlin. Each side of the dubplate is limited to 2 tracks, considering both are under 6 minutes and 20 seconds. For optimal sound quality and volume gain, we recommend 1 track per side. Dubplates are playable as many times as regular vinyl records.

Nitz – “Ankshis” release on AmbientSoup

Nitz

"Ankhis"
AmbientSoup

“Ankshis ” is a micro-cosmos of complex & detailed constructions, carefully elevated through subtle movements that make all its parts feel organic and warm — a world of textural soundscapes, full of sounds both weird and beautiful. Here time stands still, like the early morning haze.

“A true reflection of AmbientSoup’s ethos.

Ljubljana’s Tine Vrabič (Nitz), has spent most of his creative life entangled between experimental electronics and left-field club music. After this year’s stellar debut with Urška as II/III, “It could be paradise” Tine returns to the ambient soup imprint to further expand his creative vision on a distinct 4-track EP.

“The release comes with a unique riso poster (30 cm × 30 cm) by Blaž Rojs printed out with a risoprint technique.”

Written & produced: Tine Vrabič
Artwork: Blaž Rojs
Mastered in Studio Friteza by Štefan Cerjak
Synth on Gverila by Slaviša Stevanović (Evano)
