Khmgnff Mixtape for KALTBLUT Magazine

Khmgnff Mixtape for KALTBLUT Magazine
—
“Resonance

Barbara Khamouguinoff, aka Khmgnff, kicks off this month with an experimental 60-minute long exclusive mix for Kaltblut Magazine. Born in France, but now based in Berlin, the versatile producer/DJ doesn’t only produce her own music, but also runs the label Micromod, as well as being involved in Rings of Neptune’s latest project ‘Kōrero’ alongside Nies. Recently, Khmgnff appeared in the ‘Interstellar Travel Guide’, a two-part compilation featuring a versatile array of music ranging from spoken vocals and ambient drones to exploratory techno. The compilation was a limited-edition cassette format produced in solidarity with recent protests against police brutality and racism, and in honour of the Stonewall riots of 1969.

“‘Resonance’ will inevitably affect your breathing and leave you with a meditative sense of calmness.”

Her sets and productions resemble audio collages and showcase her unique approach of fusing different musical styles to create a sensation of movement. The French artist takes inspiration and material from various sources and atmospheric recordings, ranging from busy urban noise to calming nature sounds.

Her experimental audio collage, titled ‘Resonance’, beautifully demonstrates Khmgnff’s talent to take the listener on a journey of different textures, trippy background voices and ethnic sounds that’ll leave you with a sort of melancholic inner peace by the end.

Keep Your Ears Open

"Keep Your Ears Open

"Crevette Records x Antena Kolektiv

Crevette Records is a vinyl shop in the heart of Brussels/Belgium focusing on club music and beyond. Don’t hesitate to visit the online shop for some fresh wax.

Their dedicated staff compiled this playlist to get your ears open. Have a listen to the music selected by Alfred Anders, Jakob and Walrus for Antena Kolektiv, curated by etape & cblous.

What music do you listen to when you’re on a drive to the river with your lover?
Cooking paella with your friends?
Dancing alone after your heart is broken?
Grooving with your dog in your living room?
Putting eyeshadow on before a party?
Or when the party’s over and you’re biking home?

“A space for all your moods.”

Each playlist is inspired by a different topic. After selecting the topics for the month, they choose artists from around the world and ask them to collaborate by hand picking songs. The selected collaborators (visual artists, djs, songwriters, producers, designers) will contribute to the four monthly playlists, with a chance of becoming permanent “regulars” in the collective.

When they have the songs, the curation begins. Once the curation is complete, the songs are merged into a full playlist that can be streamed through Spotify.

Although the collaborators and the listeners don’t know each other they become part of a bigger picture. They interrelate with each other in a net/ web of connection, just like what happens in everyday life.

Quarantine Diaries: ‘What The Fluff’ Atelier by PLUIES

The Quarantine Diaries

or How to Fight Lockdown-Fatigue in These Trying Times

— PLUIES talks about lockdown fatigue, and how redecorating her apartment coupled with budget solutions and creativity led her to create the “What the Fluff” atelier.

“During lockdown Chapter II, just like many of us, I really started to get bored. I had watched all the nice documentaries on Tënk, read all the books I had planned to read, and, mostly, I had ultimately accepted the fact that my next concert would happen in 2021.

The only thing left to do was to redecorate my interior, where my boyfriend and I spend most of our time since this pandemic situation started. As we moved stuff around, we concluded that we needed rugs — a lot of lovely, soft, and cozy rugs to survive in this harsh, contaminated world.

We wanted to surround ourselves with softness. We then tried online to find the perfect rug for our home, but we couldn’t find anything we liked to match our ‘broke artists’ budget. So I turned to him and said: ‘you know what, I’m going to make it myself!'”.

“Indeed, the machine for tufting rugs was actually cheaper than the majority of the rugs we liked. So I got super hyped and instantly ordered it. After spending a whole night watching all the rug tufting video’s on YouTube (they are super satisfying, by the way, highly recommended), I started drawing my first ideas and made collages with color papers. I impatiently waited for my second-hand tufting gun to arrive. Yes, it’s called like that: a gun, a powerful tool for creation and expression!

Thanks to ME/WE and Le Cartel de Bruxelles, I received the keys of an unused storefront in 6 Rue de Vergnies in Brussels to open a little boutique-atelier for my new activity.”

“Rug making saved me from boredom, and from going bankrupt while waiting for the cultural sector to wake up from the cocoma it’s in!”

“While waiting for the machine’s delivery, I gathered vintage, pure organic wool from second-hand stores and my grandma’s attic. I got help from my textile designer friend Gilles Werbrouck, who gave me a lot of yarn stock. When the machine arrived, I made my first creations and posted them online. I instantly got many orders from friends and random people from the inter webs.

It’s business time!”

“oh and by the way, I still don’t have any rugs at my place, since I sold all of my creations already!”
