Luc Ringeisen — Unreleased Archives vol. 4

Luc Ringeisen ventures into the Bandcamp ecosystem to release new and exclusive tracks available in two attractive formats: high-quality downloads (24bit/48K WAV) and a rather unusual but highly collectible custom dubplate with personalized tracklist through an “A la Carte” concept.  After releasing the first 3 Volumes, he just released Volume 4.

Gems Under The Horizon

A chill-out division of Basic Moves

"Gems under the Horizon"

This April will see Basic Moves inaugurate its new sub-label Gems Under The Horizon. This chill-out division of the main label is aiming to share more ambient, downtempo and mellow sounds.

“And we all do love those mellow sounds!

With GEMS1 the label welcomes

with ‘Up Goes The Green Flare’. Somni451 is notably known for his work on the likes of Astral Industries, Time Released Sound and his own self-titled imprint. Here the fellow Belgian tells us about his contribution to the a-side.

“Unexpectedly, the track is based around a chord from a song often played on the radio during the Second World War. The sample has been manipulated – it almost feels as if the music disappears into the mist. The title references the green flare shot into the sky that allied bomber squadrons took as a signal for take-off. (In case of a red light, they were to turn their engines off and run back to their quarters.) Hence the saying: “Up goes the green flare.”

On the b-side is Dylan
Thomas Hayes

’ ‘Where The Light Begins’, inspired by Dylan Thomas’ 1947 poem ‘Do not go gentle into that good night’. The composition, laid out over nine minutes, features hazy field recordings, textural atmospherics and warm low-end notes, while twinkling metallic tones ebb and flow throughout.

IDE003 – Ydhessa

[Aimée Portioli and Enrica Falqui]

IDE003 contains 4 remixes from the release IDE002 (Jiska Huizing & Rudi Valdersnes, 2019, Ideophone Records) by well known artists rRoxymore, Yhdessa, Nkisi and newcomer JIJU.

“Each artist has really managed to make the original tracks their own and their unique sounds and styles really shine in this very diverse collection of remixes, from experimental dancefloor tracks to ambient.”

rRoxymore’s remix of Ballad is a playful dancefloor track with a lot of bounce, intriguing details and unexpected turns. Halfway in we are surprised with a twist, as the light rhythms of the first part of the track turn around a different corner. The haunting, dubby atmosphere of the original track is explored and stretched in rRoxymore’s version, and turned into a remix that keeps the listener (dancing) on their toes.

Yhdessa (Aimée Portioli and Enrica Falqui) brings out the warm side of Dunes in their remix. A simplicity in the amount of elements in this remix is the basis on which Yhdessa builds a beautiful track with modulating melodies and a constant drive forward. The delicacy of the sounds, its variations and the track’s immersive build up in combination with its rather sudden end, leaves us wanting for more and press repeat, repeat, repeat.

Nkisi’s remix of Sailor Song conjures up a group of sirens that grabs you by the throat right from the start and doesn’t let you go until you have danced your shoes to pieces. The hypnotic and haunting seductive powers of the sirens are supported by Nkisi’s evolving drum patterns and the strong kick catalyzes energy and warmth that runs throughout the whole track. This is a track to be played with your volume on full and enough place to be able to dance it out.

JIJU (Jiska Huizing and Julie Silset) is the newcomer on IDE003, releasing their first remix together. Known as a DJ-duo, they have made an ambient remix of ‘Cave’ which rounds off the release. Using the track’s field recordings and manipulating the small sounds of the water droplets in this cave into percussive and melodic elements, they have created a meditative reflection through a soundscape that seems to be constantly changing. This is just the start of JIJU!

La Messe with Shōen 荘園

La Messe – Shōen 荘園”

Using calm and dancing rhythms, the artist has concocted an experimental and cosmic mix.
To listen like an interior journey, close your eyes and let yourself be carried away.

Shōen 荘 園 is the unification of the universe of Samuel. Through the study of hypnotherapy, Samuel found that we could immerse the listener in a changed state of mind through music.

So he uses that to deliver the best possible energy at the right time for the audience.
If one has always been inspired by nebulous sounds, ambient and chaotic borders, the other is found at the origin of the house and minimal while being close to sometimes melancholy and poetic music.

His hybrid music moves away from the techno atmosphere to reach an enchanting universe that awakens the imagination.
